I was never the biggest fan of Matchbox Twenty’s music but I loved interviewing them. There was never any pretense or BS with them. Just a bunch of dudes who lucked out and scored a ton of big hits. I interviewed them (and singer Rob Thomas) several times over the years, beginning just a few months after their debut record, Yourself or Someone Like You, took off. I later interviewed Thomas about a potential solo career, which he said he wasn’t interested in, and then about that solo career that, you know, he said he didn’t want.
